Dear Hilary, I would like to attend a bitting clinic with my horse (cob) Chief if possible.

In a nutshell, I’ve tried various bits with him, some seem to work for a while then he works them out, becomes strong and leans, and I in turn become strong too which neither of us want. He then becomes tense and high in his head carriage and I find my hands up under my chin with a very strong onward bound cob, unable to shorten my reins which adds to the tension. He is a very sensitive soul and I really want him to be comfortable in his mouth and I’m not sure if the bits I’ve tried even fit him. Bits tried over the past year include: Verbindend, NS Team up Bit and a Bomber Happy Tongue. I’m afraid to put anything stronger in his mouth with out proper advice.
He has also recently had a new saddle fitted to ensure his tension is not caused by that. And regular bodywork sessions.

I live in a village outside Towcester in South Northamptonshire where I also stable Chief. I’m happy to travel to a clinic in this area if you have one coming up, as I don’t have a group of riders here to book a clinic together.
